Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Do you have an elevator?
A: Yes! For over a decade we did not have an operational elevator due to the historic nature of the original elevator and current State Regulatory laws relating to elevators. With the completion of our new wing (expected in early spring of 2016), we will also have a chair lift and ADA compliant rooms.
Q: What is the minimum to reserve and occupy a room?
A: Our minimum check-in age is 18 years.
Q: Do you allow pets?
A: No, we do not allow pets inside The Monterey Hotel.
Q: Where do we park?
A: There are three options for parking. The first option is valet parking through the Hotel, which is $21 per day including unlimited in-and-out access to your vehicle 24 hours a day. The second option is the East Parking Garage (public parking) located on the corner of Franklin Street and Washington. The East Garage is $7 per entry for a maximum of 24 hours. The third option is free street parking (60-120 minutes) enforced by the City of Monterey Parking Division. Parking is enforced Monday through Saturday and some holidays. Parking is not enforced on Sundays (as of early 2016). Visit the official site (http://bit.ly/1V1LdzN) for more information.
Q: What are the hours of the Monterey Bay Aquarium? How much are the tickets? How far is it from The Monterey Hotel?
A: Hours are 10am to 5pm. Admission prices are $39.95 for adults, $24.95 for children under 12 (kids under 3 are free), and $34.95 for students 13-17 or seniors over 65. The Aquarium is just over a mile away.
Q: Do you have packages or discounted tickets with the Monterey Bay Aquarium?
A: We do occasionally have packages with the Aquarium which include a hotel room and a special deal price for Aquarium tickets. This offer is typically available year round, except for our peak summer season. If the room package is unavailable during your stay, we still offer Aquarium tickets at the prices listed above, except our tickets are good for two consecutive days.
Q: How far is the beach?
A: The beach is about one mile from The Monterey Hotel.
Q: What attractions are within walking distance?
A: There are numerous attractions within walking distance of the Hotel. Old Fisherman's Wharf is just a few minutes away, offering restaurants, shops, and whale watching tours near the end of the pier. El Estero Park, commonly referred to as "Dennis the Menace Park," is a 10-15 minute walk from the Hotel, and is incredibly family friendly with its distinct playground, duck pond, and short trails. The Monterey County Youth Museum is nearby on Washington Street. In addition, Cannery Row is about a 30-minute walk along the Monterey Bay Coastal Recreation Trail, which passes many wildlife viewing areas where otters and seals rest and play. Cannery Row has numerous restaurants, shops, and the world-famous Monterey Bay Aquarium. During the summer months (from Memorial Day Weekend until Labor Day Weekend) there is a free trolley that goes to both Old Fisherman's Wharf and Cannery Row. Hours are 10am to 7pm on weekdays and 10am to 8pm on weekends. This trolley is available on weekends only during the off-season.
Q: What attractions do you recommend on the Peninsula?
A: The Monterey Bay Peninsula has a tremendous number of attractions that we love to recommend to visitors. For those seeking the singular coastal beauty of our area, we recommend 17-Mile Drive through Pacific Grove and into Carmel-by-the-Sea, as well as many Big Sur State Parks and several local beaches. Please see the Front Desk Staff for further information.
Q: Are there wineries and/or tasting rooms close by?
A: There are several tasting rooms close to Monterey, including Carmel Ridge Winery, Great American Wineries Inc., and Bargetto Winery of Cannery Row.
Q: Where can we get a massage? Do you have a spa?
A: When our new wing is completed in spring of 2016, we will have massage treatment rooms, a fitness center, and a therapeutic spa tub. In the meantime, we are able to offer in-room massages through The Massage Team; however, we do ask that guests put in a request prior to arrival, due to the size of some of our historic rooms. There are also many local spas nearby, including Elysium, Massage Envy, and Peak Performance Massage. In addition, the lovely Refuge in Carmel Valley offers a variety of unique experiences, including saunas, hot and cold pools, and massages.
Q: Where can I go to work out? Do you have a gym?
A: We plan to open our new Fitness Room with the additional of our new wing in 2016. In the meantime, you can enjoy walking or biking along the Monterey Bay Coastal Recreation Trail (http://bit.ly/1V1LdzN) minutes from the Hotel. This much-loved trail wraps the coast, meandering through Cannery Row, up to Lover's Point, and near Asilomar State Beach. There is also the Monterey Bay Sports Center just two blocks away, offering a variety of different amenities including recreational classes, a pool, and different types of equipment.
Q: What is the best movie theater in the area?
A: Nearby theaters are Monterey 13, Oslo Cinemas, and Central Coast Cinemas.
Q: Where do you recommend we go to eat? Go for drinks? Nightlife?
A: There are so many different options for food, drinks, and fun in Monterey that we prefer to tailor each recommendation for our guests. We do this to help ensure everyone receives a truly singular and wonderful experience. Please call and speak with any one of our knowledgeable staff available 24 hours per day.
